The anonymous copper issues of late 17th-century Kartli reflect the kingdom's grinding position between Safavid and Ottoman pressure — coinage authority was nominal, minting was irregular, and attribution even to a specific reign remains contested among Georgian numismatists. The "Horse" bisti types are identified by die study rather than inscription, since the issuing authority deliberately omitted or obscured royal names, possibly to maintain political ambiguity with overlord powers demanding tribute.
