Reverse description The crowned Lion of Judah, the royal symbol of Ethiopia, depicted in full stride facing right, holding a cross-topped staff or sceptre in its right forepaw. A royal banner or ribbon with a cross device is draped across the lion's back. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the design along the rim, with the denomination and date inscribed in the lower field. The composition follows the established iconographic tradition of Ethiopian imperial coinage of the early twentieth century.
