Reverse description Central device depicting two crossed hammers or keys saltire-wise within a beaded inner circle, referencing the burgh arms of Edinburgh. The field around the saltire cross device is plain, with the circumferential Latin legend OPPIDVM · EDINBVRGI running between the inner beaded circle and the outer beaded border. The flan is irregularly shaped and slightly clipped as is typical of hammered small denomination billon coinage of the Scottish Renaissance period under James V.
