| Obverse description | The obverse displays the arms of Lucerne — a per fess shield divided horizontally, the upper half bearing a diagonal lattice or grid pattern and the lower half plain — set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is presented in a Gothic cartouche style typical of mid-16th-century Swiss municipal coinage. A beaded or pearled border ring surrounds the central device, with the circumferential legend occupying the outer field between the inner and outer rim. The square klippe flan is clearly defined, with the coin's design struck within a circular frame that leaves the corners of the planchet visible. The hammered strike is characteristic of the period, showing typical die relief and surface texture. |
