Obverse description Quartered shield of arms surmounted by a princely crown occupies the central field. The escutcheon displays the complex armorial bearings of Alexandre Berthier as Prince of Neuchâtel, incorporating an imperial eagle in the chief quarter, chevrons with bezants, and further heraldic charges. A small mint letter 'N' appears at the base of the shield. The encircling legend reads ALEXANDRE PRINCE & DUC DE NEUCHATEL, interrupted at the top by the crown, with the text disposed around the entire periphery within a beaded border.

Reverse description The denomination 1/2 BATZ is displayed in two lines at the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath composed of an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right, tied at the base with a ribbon. The date appears in the exergue below the wreath. The peripheral legend PRINCIPAUTE DE NEUCHATEL runs around the circumference within a beaded border, divided at the top by the junction of the two branches.
