Obverse lettering * DOMINE · CONSERVA · NOS · IN · PACE
Reverse description The denomination '1/2 BATZEN' and date '1724' are inscribed within an ornate baroque cartouche formed by an elaborate fleur-de-lis and scrollwork design, centrally positioned in the field. The surrounding circular Latin legend * MONETA · NOVA · BASILEENSIS ('New Money of Basel') runs along the entire periphery, separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The overall design is characteristic of the refined milled coinage produced for the Canton of Basel in the early 18th century.
