| Descrizione del rovescio | A large floriated cross pattee occupies the central field, with the Portuguese royal shield — bearing the traditional quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) — at its centre. Stylised castle motifs or decorative elements are placed in the angles of the cross. A Latin circular legend runs around the periphery within a beaded border, the whole design executed in the bold, somewhat irregular gothic hammered style characteristic of 14th-century Portuguese coinage. |
