| Additional information |
This piece belongs to Panama's "Monedas con Historia" commemorative series, which highlighted colonial-era architectural heritage. The Convent of Saint Joseph in Panama City's Casco Viejo district is particularly associated with the famous Golden Altar — the ornate baroque altarpiece that, according to local tradition, was painted black by a priest during Henry Morgan's 1671 sack of Panama to disguise its value from buccaneers.
