| Obverse description | Four lines of Latin legend arranged in the field, reading PIVS / PAPA·VI / AN· / XXIII, identifying the issuing pontiff as Pope Pius VI in the twenty-third year of his reign. The inscription is enclosed within a continuous olive or laurel wreath that encircles the entire design. A rope or beaded inner border frames the wreath, and a milled outer border runs along the coin's rim. The composition is purely typographic, with no figural imagery, in a style typical of late eighteenth-century Papal States copper coinage. |
