Obverse description Central field features the oval papal arms displaying the Chigi family eagle, set within an ornate beaded and scrollwork cartouche. The shield is surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire composition, reading LEO XII P.M.A. III, with the inscription distributed along the left and right periphery. The coin border is defined by a fine toothed rim. The overall design reflects the formal heraldic style characteristic of early nineteenth-century Papal coinage.
