Cabinda is an Angolan exclave separated from the main territory by a strip of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and its separatist movement — led primarily by the FLEC factions — has sought independence since before Angola itself was a republic. The Banco de Cabinda has no recognized status under international monetary law; these pieces were issued as fantasy or local promotional coinage rather than circulating legal tender.
