| Obverse description | Central field bears the Portuguese royal arms: a crowned shield displaying five escutcheons in cross arrangement, each charged with five bezants, set within a bordure of seven castles, the whole surmounted by a royal crown. The denomination '1/2 ATIA' appears vertically along the left rim and the mint name 'DEDIO' vertically along the right rim, both in raised lettering. The date 1851 is inscribed horizontally in the lower exergue beneath the shield. The design exhibits the characteristic bold, shallow relief of a hammered pattern piece struck at the Diu mint. |
