The legend reads: 'He struck coin on silver and gold like the sun and moon / Muhammad Ali Shah, sovereign of the age, by the grace of God.' The calligraphy is deeply struck in high relief, characteristic of hammered Awadh gold coinage, with the script extending nearly to the milled border that encircles the coin. The field shows the slightly irregular, textured surface typical of hand-struck issues of this period. |
