Pakistan's first coinage after independence retained pre-decimal anna denominations while the government debated monetary reform — a process that dragged on until 1961, when the paisa system finally replaced it. These small nickel brass pieces bridged the administrative gap between colonial-era currency and a fully independent monetary structure.

The KM#13 series ran for just five years before becoming obsolete at decimalization.
