| 表面の銘文 | EAST INDIA COMPANY 1834 AUSP:REG & SEN:ANG: (Translation: By the authority of the King and Parliament of England) |
| 裏面の説明 | Central field features a prominently rendered balance scale with ornate decorative suspension, symbolising justice and equity in commerce. The large Arabic word عدل (meaning 'just' or 'fair') is inscribed in the central field beneath the scales. The Latin legend HALF ANNA curves along the upper periphery, while the Hijri date ١٢٤٩ (1249 AH) is rendered in Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals along the lower periphery. The overall composition evokes the themes of fairness and legitimate trade authority central to East India Company coinage. |

The 1834 issue followed the East India Company's consolidation of its coinage under the 1835 Coinage Act — though struck a year before that act formally unified the three presidency coinages, this piece belongs to the transitional moment when Bombay, Bengal, and Madras were still operating semi-independently. The Company had faced persistent complaints about the chaotic plurality of circulating types, many of which bore no consistent relationship to one another in weight or value.
KM#453 was struck at the Calcutta Mint under contract arrangements that would be dissolved within two years of this issue.
