Indore's coinage during the early nineteenth century was issued under the Holkar dynasty, which had consolidated power in Malwa following the fragmentation of Maratha authority after the Third Anglo-Maratha War. The state retained nominal minting rights under British paramountcy, though the practical autonomy behind such issues was quietly eroding throughout this period.
KM#92.1 is distinguished from the closely related 92.2 variety by die characteristics documented in Pridmore's work on Indian princely states.
