Obverse description Central field occupied by a circular band of dots of varying quantity depending on the issue year, enclosed within a wreath of wheat and olive branches tied at the base with a small shield or cartouche device. The Arabic legend surrounds the dotted circle and wreath, reading the name and title of King Muhammad Zahir Shah along with the name Afghanistan and the religious epithet al-Mutawakkil ala Allah (He who relies upon God). The entire design is contained within a beaded border running along the coin's rim.
