| Obverse description | Central field bears the interlaced cypher 'AW' (for August Wilhelm) surmounted by a princely crown. The monogram is rendered in bold relief with elegant interlacing strokes. The surrounding legend reads 'VON FEINEM SILBER' (of fine silver), with the mint mark 'H H' and the date appearing at the base of the coin. August William ruled Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from 1714 until his death in 1731, inheriting a principality still financially strained from the costs of the War of the Spanish Succession.
