| 背面描述 | A floriated or ornamented cross with four decorative terminals, each bearing a trefoil or pellet ornament, dominates the reverse field. A small central shield superimposed at the crossing of the cross displays the numeral '16', denoting the denomination of 1/16 Thaler. The circumferential legend reads MONETA NOVA SCHLESWI (or a variant spelling) followed by the two-digit regnal year, all within a beaded border. |

John Adolphus ruled Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp from 1590 until his death in 1616, presiding over a duchy caught perpetually between Danish overlordship and the ambitions of the Holstein-Gottorp line to assert independent standing. The 1/16 Thaler denomination was a practical response to the chronic shortage of mid-range silver in the region during the late sixteenth century, when the larger thaler was too valuable for everyday commerce but copper coinage was considered beneath ducal dignity.
The Lange#282 variant notation suggests die differences exist within this short production window — not unusual for a duchy-level mint operating without the standardized die-cutting infrastructure of the larger imperial mints.
