Additional information

Christian Albert inherited the Gottorp duchy in 1659 at age fifteen, immediately inheriting with it a ruinous dispute with the Danish crown over control of the ducal portions of Schleswig and Holstein. The fractional thaler denominations struck through these years were practical currency for a small court perpetually short of funds, caught between Danish military pressure and an ongoing search for Swedish alliance that would eventually bear out in 1679.

Lange 383 is specific to this type; collectors working the Gottorp series should note that Christian Albert's issues across this period vary considerably in die quality and silver fineness.
