| Aanvullende informatie |
The Archbishopric of Bremen was in an almost paradoxical position during these years: its last Catholic archbishop, Friedrich of Denmark, had died in 1634, and the territory was effectively administered under Swedish protection through the latter stages of the Thirty Years' War. These fractional thalers were struck amid that administrative uncertainty, with Bremen's ecclesiastical mint operating under conditions that blurred the line between episcopal and secular authority. The Peace of Westphalia in 1648 would formally secularize the territory as the Duchy of Bremen under Swedish rule, making this issue one of the last coinages struck under the archiepiscopal title.
