正面描述 Central device comprising a bow, a quiver of arrows, and an upright flag on a staff, arranged diagonally across the field in a heraldic grouping emblematic of the State of Jalisco. The surrounding legend ESTADO LIBRE DE JALISCO is inscribed along the upper periphery in Latin characters, interrupted and flanked by star ornaments. The date 1861 appears in the lower exergual area, likewise flanked by stars. The coin's border is defined by a fine toothed or reeded rim.

附加信息

Jalisco issued this fractional copper in 1861 under the authority granted to Mexican states during the chronic small-change shortages of the mid-nineteenth century. Federal silver fractions had long failed to penetrate rural and working-class commerce in sufficient quantities, pushing several states to authorize their own copper minors. Jalisco's issues from this period are among the more systematically struck of the state coppers, produced at Guadalajara, but surviving examples in problem-free condition are genuinely scarce — copper coinage circulated hard in western Mexico and was rarely saved.
