Obverse description Draped and laureate bust of Louis XIV facing right, portrayed in the late regal style with elaborate curled periwig. The king wears armor beneath a draped mantle, with a laurel wreath crowning his head. A beaded inner circle frames the effigy, and the surrounding legend runs along the outer rim between the beaded border and the coin's edge. The portrait reflects the refined engraving style of Joseph Roëttiers.
