Obverse description Central device depicting the crowned Brunswick helmet surmounted by a prancing horse crest, set above a shield within the field. The circumferential legend reads in Latin, separated by rosette stops, identifying the issuer as Henry Julius by the grace of God Prince-Bishop of Halberstadt and Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg. The design is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German hammered coinage, with bold relief and a beaded inner border framing the inscription.
