William IV never set foot in Hannover. Ruling the kingdom solely through a viceroy, he remained in Britain while the two crowns remained linked under the Salic-inflected personal union that had persisted since George I in 1714. That union collapsed the moment Victoria acceded in 1837 — women were barred from the Hanoverian throne — making this short series among the last coins to carry a British monarch's name before Hannover passed to Ernest Augustus.
