Louis Rudolph ruled Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel for barely three years before his death in 1735, having spent most of his life as a secondary figure in the Brunswick dynastic hierarchy. He only acceded to the principality in 1731 after the death of his brother August Wilhelm, and the brief window of 1733–1734 for this issue reflects a reign too short to develop a substantial or varied coinage. The 1⁄12 Thaler denomination was a workhorse of northern German petty commerce, and Brunswick mints produced it in quantity regardless of who held the title.
