Francis Josias ruled Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, not Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach — his appearance on a Weimar-Eisenach issue reflects his role as administrator of the duchy during the minority of Ernest Augustus II, who succeeded to the title in 1748 as a child. This guardianship arrangement, common enough in the fractured political geography of the Holy Roman Empire, occasionally produced coinage acknowledging the regent rather than the nominal ruler. The KM#70.2 designation separates this from an earlier variant, suggesting at least one die revision across the two-year emission window of 1752–53.
