Christian Ludwig II ruled Mecklenburg-Schwerin from 1747 until his death in 1756, a reign squeezed between the financial strains of maintaining a minor German court and the gathering pressures that would explode into the Seven Years' War in 1756. The 1⁄12 Thaler denomination — equivalent to two Groschen — was a workhorse of small commerce in the north German states, circulating alongside issues from Brunswick, Brandenburg, and the other fragmented principalities that made up the Kreisassoziation monetary system.
Kunzel 318 A/a places this among the earliest die pairings of the type. The four-year production window suggests consistent demand rather than a single emergency issue.
