Sweden's hold on Pomerania — secured at the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 — required a functioning local coinage to maintain administrative credibility in the territory. The 1/12 Thaler denomination fitted into the north German reichsmünzfuss system, allowing Swedish-issued coin to circulate alongside Brandenburg and ducal issues without friction. Charles XI never visited Pomerania; the province was governed through a General-Gouvernement in Stralsund, and the mint there operated under that civil apparatus rather than any direct royal directive.
