Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Carlos I of Portugal facing right, modeled in low relief with naturalistic detail of the hair and facial features. The engraver's initials 'V.A.' appear in small characters below the truncation of the neck. A beaded inner border frames the central motif. The surrounding legend, separated by two small floral ornaments, reads 'CARLOS I REI DE PORTUGAL' along the upper arc, with the Roman numeral date 'MCMI' (1901) along the lower arc.
