| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Carlos I of Portugal facing right, modeled in low relief with naturalistic detail of the hair and facial features. The engraver's initials 'V.A.' appear in small characters below the truncation of the neck. A beaded inner border frames the central motif.
