| Obverse description | Left-facing diademed effigy of Queen Victoria with loosely braided hair gathered into a chignon, engraved in high relief after the design by Leonard Charles Wyon. The truncation of the bust is bare, and the portrait is set within a continuous beaded border. The circular Latin legend runs around the periphery, interrupted by a small six-pointed star positioned centrally below the bust in the lower field. |

Jersey's fractional coinage was administered independently of the Royal Mint for much of the 19th century, with local authorities controlling issue dates and quantities to suit the island's modest commercial needs. The long span of this type — nearly two decades under a single KM number — reflects how slowly the States of Jersey rotated its bronze coinage rather than any continuous large-scale production.
The 1/12 shilling denomination is peculiar to the Channel Islands, rooted in a local accounting system that resisted decimalization long after Britain debated it.
