Francis Josias ruled Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld from 1735 until his death in 1764, spending the bulk of that reign as an Imperial field marshal — he commanded Austrian forces during the War of Austrian Succession and was present at the siege of Prague in 1742. The duchy itself was tiny, perpetually cash-strapped, and issued coinage in fits and starts largely tied to military pay requirements and feudal obligation rather than any coherent monetary policy.
The two-year window of this particular fraction aligns with the opening phase of the Seven Years' War, when troop movements through the Saxon territories created immediate demand for small silver.
