Obverse description Draped bust of Louis XIII facing right, with flowing long hair rendered in fine detail, wearing a laurel wreath. The effigy is executed in the refined baroque style characteristic of Jean Warin's first portrait punch. The circular Latin legend reads LVDOVICVS XIII D G FR ET NAV REX around the periphery. The coin field is smooth and well-struck, with a milled or beaded border framing the design.

Reverse description Crowned coat of arms of France, displaying three fleurs-de-lis on a plain shield, surmounted by a royal crown in high relief. The shield is centrally placed in the field, flanked by decorative elements. The circular Latin legend SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTVM with the date 1642 is distributed around the periphery. The mint mark A (Paris) appears in the exergue below the shield. A beaded border frames the entire reverse design.
