| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features the denomination inscribed in three lines at the center of the field: the fraction '1/12' above the word 'ANNA' in large Roman capitals, followed below by the Arabic script legend denoting one-third pice. The central inscription is framed by a wreath of laurel or olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The circular legend EAST INDIA COMPANY runs along the upper periphery in evenly spaced Latin capitals, with the design contained within a plain raised rim. |

The 1835 coinage reform by the East India Company standardized currency across all three presidencies — Bengal, Bombay, and Madras — which had previously struck their own incompatible issues. This unified copper series was the first to circulate across the subcontinent under a single administrative authority. William IV died in 1837, yet his effigy continued appearing alongside Victoria's name on Company issues well into the following decade, a bureaucratic lag that makes precise dating by type alone unreliable.
