Obverse description Host coin struck at Santo Domingo, featuring the royal monogram of the Spanish Crown at center — a crowned Gothic 'F' and 'P' (for Fernando and Juana, or Philip) interlaced beneath a royal crown — flanked by small annulets in the field. A partial circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, largely obscured by wear and the coin's irregular flan. The design is characteristic of early Spanish colonial copper coinage struck in the hammered technique, exhibiting a crude, irregular fabric consistent with 16th-century Caribbean mint production.
