| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Emperor Menelik II, 82nd Emperor of Ethiopia, wearing an ornate imperial crown adorned with a cross finial and intricate horizontal banding. The emperor is depicted with a full beard and dressed in a decorated collar garment, rendered in high relief with fine naturalistic detail by engraver Lagrange. A circular Ge'ez legend surrounds the effigy, reading the imperial titulature, with the engraver's signature LA GRANGE incised along the lower rim within the toothed border. |
