Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before his coronation ever took place, making every coin struck in his name that year a relic of a reign that lasted less than eleven months. The West African Currency Board had already committed dies and production runs before the abdication was announced, and the resulting pieces entered circulation regardless — the board had no mechanism to recall or replace coinage quickly across British West Africa.
KM#14 exists in relatively small numbers compared to the broader WACB series, a direct consequence of the truncated regal year.
