The Noble series launched in 1983 as one of the first modern platinum bullion programs anywhere, predating the American Platinum Eagle by over a decade and positioning the Isle of Man as an early mover in the investment-grade platinum market. The Manx Treasury updated the effigy to Raphael Maklouf's portrait — used across Commonwealth coinage from 1985 — but retained the "uncouped" truncation variant that distinguishes these transitional issues from later releases.
