The 1/10 écu denomination was introduced as part of the monetary reform of 1726 under John Law's successor system, fixing silver coinage to stable weight-fineness relationships that held remarkably well through most of Louis XV's reign. Production ran across multiple French mints simultaneously, with Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, and a dozen others striking to the same standard — making mint mark attribution the primary variable distinguishing individual pieces.
The thirty-one year production window encompasses at least two distinct portrait types, catalogued separately in Droulers and traceable through die progression work by later specialists.
