Piedforts from Potosí are institutional curiosities — struck at double the normal planchet thickness as presentation or pattern pieces, almost certainly never intended for circulation. The 1865 date places this during a period of significant monetary reform in Bolivia, when the country was transitioning away from the older macuquina-era weight standards toward a decimalized system anchored by French metric conventions adopted in the early 1860s.
KM#PB3 is among the rarer piedfort listings for this mint, with documented examples numbering in the low dozens at best.
