Beschrijving keerzijde Archangel Michael depicted in dynamic three-quarter stance, facing right, his muscular winged figure thrusting a long spear downward into the coiling body of a dragon. The Archangel holds a shield in his left hand and is shown with a halo above his head, his great wings spread behind him. The defeated dragon writhes beneath his feet amid flames and scales. In the upper right field, the privy mark 'M10' appears. Below the central device, in the exergue, the inscription 'Au.999.9 1/10 OUNCE ANGEL' identifies the metal, fineness, weight fraction, and denomination. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

The Angel series was introduced by the Isle of Man in 1984 as a bullion coinage explicitly designed to compete with the Krugerrand and the newly launched Canadian Maple Leaf. The Isle of Man Treasury retained discretion to update the reverse design annually — an unusual arrangement that makes year-to-year type collecting within the series genuinely complex. The "IRB" designation on this issue refers to the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Elizabeth II, the fourth definitive portrait, which entered circulation on British coinage in 1998.
