Saint-Barthélemy did not gain its status as a separate French overseas collectivity until 2007, making this a pattern struck three years before the island had any autonomous issuing authority whatsoever. The 1½ euro denomination itself is a fiction — no such coin exists in the eurozone's standard denominations — used almost exclusively by French entities producing silver bullion pieces aimed squarely at the collector market rather than any circulation intent.
