Guadeloupe has no independent monetary authority and has used the euro since its introduction — it never issued its own coinage. This piece is a privately produced fantasy pattern, not an official French or EU-sanctioned issue. The 2004 date places it among a wave of similar "pattern" and "essai" productions marketed to collectors during the euro changeover years, when demand for regional and territorial novelty pieces was high enough to sustain a cottage industry of unofficial strikes.
