Reverse description The reverse depicts Bandabi, the official mascot of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympic Games, rendered as a stylized Asiatic black bear cub standing upright in a welcoming pose with its right arm raised and outstretched toward the viewer. The mascot wears a traditional Korean patterned hat with a pompom. The curved legend 'PyeongChang 2018 PARALYMPIC GAMES' arcs along the upper rim in Latin script. The denomination '1000 WON' is inscribed in the lower field, completing the design.

Additional information

Issued as part of Korea's four-series commemorative program leading up to the 2018 Winter Games, this coin was released two years before the opening ceremony — an unusually long promotional runway driven by the Korean Mint's decision to stagger releases annually from 2014 onward. The inclusion of Paralympic branding alongside Olympic marks on a circulating-format commemorative was, at the time, relatively uncommon in East Asian numismatic practice.
