1000 Pounds

Sudan's post-secession economy never stabilized. After South Sudan's independence in 2011 stripped Khartoum of roughly 75% of its oil revenues, the pound entered a prolonged collapse — by the time this high-denomination note entered circulation, annual inflation had already cleared 50% and was accelerating. The 1,000 pound note, once a substantial sum, was rendered functionally marginal within a few years of issue.

The series overlaps with the October 2021 military coup, which triggered international aid suspension and further currency deterioration. Notes from later in the print run circulated in an economy where the parallel exchange rate bore little resemblance to any official figure.
