The 2002 issue of this denomination was the last major print run before Slovakia's accession preparations accelerated toward euro adoption — the koruna series would be retired entirely in 2009 when Slovakia became the first post-communist Visegrad country to join the eurozone. Neografia in Martin had printed Slovak banknotes since the early 1990s and handled the full koruna series domestically, an unusual degree of in-country production capacity for a small central European state.

Marián Jusko served as NBS governor from 1999 to 2005; Karol Mičieta's signature appears as chief cashier.
