| Opmerkingen |
Thomas De La Rue has printed Mauritian currency continuously since independence, and this high-denomination note — the largest in the series at the time of issue — was produced during R. Basant Roi's first tenure as Governor, a period marked by sustained inflation pressure and debate over the rupee's managed float against a basket of currencies. The 1000 Rupee denomination carried genuine transactional weight in daily Mauritian commerce, unlike comparable high-value notes in larger economies where such figures are effectively withdrawn from circulation.
P#59 was superseded by a revised issue in 2007 when the Bank of Mauritius updated the security specification across the full series. Surviving examples from the 2004 print run are distinguishable by signature combination.
