| Opmerkingen |
The Wiener Commissions-Bank was one of several private Viennese commercial banks that issued notes during Austria's turbulent mid-nineteenth century banking expansion, before the Austro-Hungarian National Bank consolidated note-issuing authority. A 1000 Gulden denomination from a private issuer of this period would have represented an enormous sum — strictly a wholesale instrument, moving between merchants and houses of finance rather than anything approaching general circulation.
Artner & Deiml were a Vienna printing firm whose output for private banking clients remains poorly catalogued. The absence of a Pick number reflects how little documentary record survives for notes of this type.
