Obverse description The obverse is engraved in black on a pale underprint, with an oval intaglio vignette at left centre bearing a portrait of Sir Wilfrid Laurier in three-quarter view. The large denomination numeral '1000' is set centrally within an elaborate guilloche rosette, flanked by seated allegorical lion supporters and the word 'MILLE' at each side. The issuer's title 'BANQUE DU CANADA' arches above, with the place and date of issue 'OTTAWA, EMISSION DE 1935' and the bearer clause 'PAIERA AU PORTEUR SUR DEMANDE' inscribed in successive lines, while facsimile signatures of the Deputy Governor and Governor appear below the central vignette.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in olive-green intaglio and centres on a large allegorical vignette enclosed within a circular guilloche frame, in which a classical female figure on horseback is accompanied by two putti, rendered in a fine Victorian engraving style. The denomination '1000' appears in large numerals at each corner within ornate lathe-work panels, and the issuer's name 'BANQUE DU CANADA' is lettered across the top, with 'MILLE DOLLARS' along the lower border.
